Artist's Description

The autism spectrum disorder affects both children and adults throughout the world. It is a sensory processing disorder that is not fully understood. It affects every person differently which is why it’s called a “spectrum.” My daughter is affected by it and I’ve been learning so much, not only about ASD but also about new ways to see and experience the world! One thing I have learned is that it’s very important to be in tune with the sensory needs of the individual affected by ASD. As a parent, caretaker, or friend, it’s necessary to ask questions like, “Does this person need more sensory input or less at this time?” Here I’ve created a very visually-stimulating abstract image for the times when we need this kind of input. I’ve used colored circles and have thoughtfully connected some and created a bridge from one side of the image to the other. Greetings! I am so happy to be a part of this amazing worldwide community or artists. I come from a family of creative people and am grateful to my parents for cultivating my creativity which is now part of my daily life. I am a classically-trained musician and violinist with a doctorate in violin performance and until recently was the director and conductor of the La Verne Symphony Orchestra which I am happy to say still flourishes in that city.
