Description
A multitude of these birds make their home at the Los Angeles Arboretum. During the spring their loud cries can be heard coming from all directions! My challenge here was to portray a gorgeous bird without making him look too beautiful to be true...I wanted to capture his “birdy” qualities if that makes sense. Here he’s pecking in the dried leaves of the prehistoric jungle garden. I made the underdrawing from life as he was unintimidated by my observation.

Wow! The very first art show I entered as a little girl was at this arboretum. I won at the age of 9 years old and one of the awards given to me was of a large bunch of Peacock feathers. Your painting is beautifully done. Thanks for the wonderful memory, Danielle. f/l

What a lovely story and post! Thank you for sharing. I think the LA Arboretum is a special place and it’s nice to share that appreciation with a fellow artist. :-)
