Artist's Description
These are amazing creatures, the blue morpho butterflies of the American rainforests. When their wings are closed, they look like dried leaves, but when they open their wings one can see a brilliant metallic blue. When I was a child and a teenager, I had an absolute obsession with butterflies of all kinds. I wanted to become an entomologist and learned all I could about butterflies and other insects. Now my little daughter is showing the same fascination. Her favorite toy is a little cardboard monarch that I brought back from Mexico as a teenager. I painted these butterflies because of her. People on the spectrum often have very specific and intense interests. Sometimes these interests can be unusual, but many scientists, artists, and other creative people are on the spectrum and have channeled their interests for the good of themselves and others. Now that I finally understand my butterfly "obsession" I embrace it and accept it while allowing myself to explore other interests as well....

Greetings! I am so happy to be a part of this amazing worldwide community or artists. I come from a family of creative people and am grateful to my parents for cultivating my creativity which is now part of my daily life. I am a classically-trained musician and violinist with a doctorate in violin performance and until recently was the director and conductor of the La Verne Symphony Orchestra which I am happy to say still flourishes in that city. At the moment I've left the stage in order to raise our two little babies. Being a mom is what I do now. And the challenge is weaving creativity into this new life.
