Artist's Description
This piece is part of my autism series. I’m calling this new part of the series, “Autism Acceptance,” because awareness is good, but it’s not enough. People with autism and all other special needs should be appreciated, cared for and accepted for who they are.
This carefully monitored group project done by my kids and me has many layers and was worked on over the course of several days. Many emotions went into it because my daughter, who is on the autism spectrum, became really enthralled with the yellow paint. Whenever we had to stop painting for the day we had very challenging transitions to their activities, though fortunately we had therapists helping us with these. The finished project you see here is the result of experimentation and lots of fun.

Greetings! I am so happy to be a part of this amazing worldwide community or artists. I come from a family of creative people and am grateful to my parents for cultivating my creativity which is now part of my daily life. I am a classically-trained musician and violinist with a doctorate in violin performance and until recently was the director and conductor of the La Verne Symphony Orchestra which I am happy to say still flourishes in that city. At the moment I've left the stage in order to raise our two little babies. Being a mom is what I do now. And the challenge is weaving creativity into this new life.
