Artist's Description
When I was very young (I was probably 5 years old) I caught one of these magnificent butterflies at the LA Arboretum. I was so excited and but it in a plastic bag (I know, it's sad!) but the gardener saw me and made me let it go. I was so devastated at the time!! But looking back on it I'm glad he made me set the butterfly free. Perhaps this is one of it's offspring so many years later! Now I love to see butterflies flying freely...I don't have to catch them to enjoy their beauty. Isn't it interesting how some things don't turn out how we want, but years later we see the wisdom in them. But I'm happy I finally caught my butterfly in art!
About Danielle Rosaria
Greetings! I am so happy to be a part of this amazing worldwide community or artists. I come from a family of creative people and am grateful to my parents for cultivating my creativity which is now part of my daily life. I am a classically-trained musician and violinist with a doctorate in violin performance and until recently was the director and conductor of the La Verne Symphony Orchestra which I am happy to say still flourishes in that city. At the moment I've left the stage in order to raise our two little babies. Being a mom is what I do now. And the challenge is weaving creativity into this new life. This is how I rediscovered my love for visual arts (and which is also why you will see babies in many of my works!). I have a deep...

Fantastic drawing and I love the story, Danielle! When I was a child, we captured butterflies and mounted them. I still have many of those mounts 60+ years later, and they're still beautiful, but part of me feels badly that we disrupted the lives of these beautiful creatures at that time. L/F
Danielle Rosaria replied:
Thank you so much Conni! I know what you mean. I was always so conflicted when collecting them. It think it's a good way for young people to study insects though. I have my insect collection still too :-) A good collection is like a natural science library!
