Artist's Description
As the sun glows down on the meadow, a herd of mule deer graze in peace. They calmly interact with each other. Aware of all other deer's movements, the young buck in the sunlight gazes calmly towards a small cabin nestled in the grove of trees. Who would guess that this scene is about two minutes from our very urban hometown city of Arcadia, CA. But here in the foothills in the little city of Sierra Madre time slows down and we are brought into the real American west.
Most of my pastels are done in a burst of creativity and are completed in one sitting. This pastel however was done over the course of several weeks. It was created in a multi-level process that included "deer hunting" (when I drive around trying to spot deer for my kids to see), photographing, sketching, and adding layers of pastel to do justice to the beauty and depth of the forest. I knew right away that a scene like this deserved time and careful thought in order to communicate it to others.
About Danielle Rosaria
Greetings! I am so happy to be a part of this amazing worldwide community or artists. I come from a family of creative people and am grateful to my parents for cultivating my creativity which is now part of my daily life. I am a classically-trained musician and violinist with a doctorate in violin performance and until recently was the director and conductor of the La Verne Symphony Orchestra which I am happy to say still flourishes in that city. This is how I rediscovered my love for visual arts (and which is also why you will see babies in many of my works!). I have a deep...

Thank you, Shanon! It's amazing to think of how close to the city this is, but it's the boarder of city and wilderness. The foothills are right in back of this place.
